Do not purchase from Driveway if you live in Massachusetts or New York. This is my second time buying a vehicle from them, and its the second time the registration process has turned into a complete catastrophe.

Thats on me for giving them another chance, especially since they already handled my first loan and I assumed things would be smoother.
They are extremely responsive and attentive during the transaction period, but if anything goes wrong afterward, good luck. Not everyone in their departments understands the rules for MA or NY, and I firmly believe they should not be doing business in these states if theyre going to give misleading information about what can be completed in time for drivers to stay compliant with their state laws.
This is Thanksgiving week, I do not have a vehicle I can legally drive, and Im stressed about how Im supposed to get to work next week.

I cant speak for other states, but if you live in a state that does not allow temporary plates, please think twice before doing business with this company. And if youre told something can definitely be done in time, remember that once your 7 day grace period ends, you may be stuck waiting with no resolution.

Resolved: Did not disclose problems w/ vehicle

Updated by user Jul 21, 2025

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with partial refund. The company decided to refund half of the cost of shipping, I did not have any part of that discussion, I requested a full refund and only after I left a review on trust pilot did they decide they would take action. Leaving a review on trust pilot is what motivated them to act.

Original review Jun 19, 2025
Hamilton Honda on New Jersey is run by the Lithia financial group which operates driveway.com. I had a 2012 Lexus RX350 shipped down to Kentucky where I live because I was interested in purchasing it, I made the transaction through driveway.com and this dealership fulfilled it.

Driveway.com said if I didn't want the car I had 7 days or 400 miles to decide and if i sent it back it would cost $836.
As soon as I received the car I took it to a small privately owned garage who charged me $42 for a pre-purchase inspection, they discovered a timing cover leak and the only way to fix it on this year of car is to pull the entire engine out, which according to the local Lexus dealership that I asked for a quote can cost around $5,000.
I explained to driveway.com what happened and they called the local mechanic who's invoice I provided to driveway.com along with the invoice from the local Lexus dealership and driveway.com told me that it was regular maintenance for the year and model of the car, I asked them what they would do to fix this because it wasn't mentioned anywhere in the description of the car and I'm in disbelief that a Honda mechanic at the dealership missed this when they were inspecting it, they said they would do NOTHING because it's considered regular maintenance!!!
I want them to show me where in the Lexus owners manual it says a timing cover leak is regular maintenance. I told them that since the dealership "didn't find this problem" then what happens when we drop the engine and take it all apart and there are more problems with it?

They again said they would do NOTHING!
All driveway.com did was waste my time and money, I had to pay for the car to be shipped back to New Jersey which was $836, I paid for the inspection on the car and wasted so much time for a lemon they would do nothing about. Driveway.com set me up and unloaded a car with over $5,000 worth of issues on me and then wouldn't do anything to help with it.
Do not trust this dealership or driveway.com!!!

Horrible low ball offer! Offensive and outrageous

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Driveway - Horrible low ball offer! Offensive and outrageous

I received 8 online early offers on my car. The thing was always maintained and really an absolute gem.

Just like new. 5400 miles and it was a 2019! Only used it to highway drive to out of town destinations for the most part. Was not an everyday S 550 Mercedes.

MINT! NOT exaggerating this at all but what was stunning was: 6 of the 8 came with similar offers within 200 bucks between them. Driveway came in at less than HALF of what others offered (example: others offered 50K; Driveway offered 25K) and had the audacity to ask me if I wanted to move forward with the sale of my vehicle to them! Just plain old robbery!

I don't know who in the world is appraising vehicles for Driveway, but they were so far off it was offensive to me. Ridiculous. I told them to Go F yourself. You should run for the hills if you use them; but, should you decide to go with them make sure you have done your research into at least 6-8 online offers from reputable companies.

Some will low ball you, but most will be similar; Driveway will try to rob you blind! This, at least, was my experience. I obviously didn't even respond to their texts or emails after this absurd offer. I blocked them and sold to a reputable and relatively fair buyer.

NOT DRIVEWAY. Should be called HIGHWAY for Highway Robbery.

Beware of Leisha

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Beware of Leisha,

After driveway application running my credit and approving on June 1, communicated to her specifically I dont want any more hard pulls

Wanted to change the car, she said the new car is in another dealership so they will have to run my credit again, I said then I will go with the old one get me the payment/numbers and that same dealership there is no need to hard pull credit again

She also says I bought a car recently and I know how the credit works

Next I see my credit run 3 times, she says in a month for auto it will be combined as one and my credit score wont go down

Next I see my credit score decrease

Clearly she has no idea how credit works and is one of those lying salesperson

Her supervisor says I need to go to the credit bureau and get it fixed

Incompetent and takes no accountability

I dont have to be in this situation

Beware of this scammer

If two extra hard pulls for the same loan application are so concerning to you, then your credit is poor to begin with. Potential creditors don’t just look at the score as if it exists in a vacuum.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-2705120

My credit being poor or good is irrelevant here. I have had 7 hard pulls now in total reflecting on my credit.

It is okay for someone to plan to use only particular number of hard pulls. Having more than 7 hard pulls doesn’t look good either, FYI.

Vignesh R Xat

I specifically communicated not to run my credit and I don’t want to do the purchase if my credit will be run again She ran my credit and gave me these reasons which is unethical when I didn’t approve of it

Guest

She was both correct and incorrect. Your score will go down 3 to 10points on s hard pull.

So yours may have gone down 20 max on top of the maximum 10 points for your loan.

Another creditor will see that and not hold it against you as three hard pulls were for the same purchase. That being said, that’s why it is always better to get your own financing through your bank.

I specifically communicated not to run my credit again and asked if that will be done which she said no because same dealership and already credit was run and also I don’t want to do the purchase if my credit will be run again She ran my credit and gave me these reasons which is unethical when I didn’t approve of it

Poor Experience

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I've had a highly unsatisfactory experience with Driveway.com and Lithia Motors. Since beginning the purchase process on August 20th, I have encountered numerous, unresolved issues that have caused extreme inconvenience, emotional distress, and financial strain. Despite my best efforts to work with the company to resolve these problems, I have been met with delays, inadequate responses, and a lack of accountability.

Below is a timeline of events, detailing my concerns and attempts to rectify the situation:

* August 20, 2024: Initial contact with Akiree to begin the purchase process.

* August 27, 2024: My credit union issued payment for the vehicle.

* August 29, 2024: I paid $500, which was supposed to be refundable, to secure the vehicle.

* September 4, 2024: After several requests, I finally received pictures of the vehicle. The pictures, which should have been provided prior to the $500 payment, revealed cosmetic issues, including scratches, nicks, and a small indent from a baby seat.

* September 12, 2024: I received the vehicle but immediately noticed that two roof rails were missing. I called Akiree, who assured me the issue would be addressed.

* September 13, 2024: Upon inspection, the vehicle had little to no gas, the coolant light was on, and there was no wiper fluid raising questions about the so-called inspection process. Later that day, while driving, the car suddenly lost acceleration and started smoking, leaving me stranded on the expressway with my children. The car was towed to Land Rover of Chattanooga for diagnostics.

* September 16, 2024: Land Rover diagnosed a major coolant leak, an incorrect battery, and other issues, all discovered just days after receiving the vehicle.

* Despite these serious issues, Driveway declined to extend my rental car period until I requested to speak to a manager.

* October 3, 2024: After receiving the vehicle back, I experienced further mechanical failure while driving to Atlanta. The car jerked, and I had to return to Land Rover, where they found a misfire requiring spark plug replacement. Once again, Driveway offered insufficient support, agreeing only to cover half of the costs despite the dangerous situation this car has repeatedly put me in.

* October 10, 2024: I requested full coverage of the repairs due to the vehicle being in such poor condition at the time of purchase. Driveway refused, offering only a partial refund for repairs.

* As of October 15, 2024, I am still without a functional vehicle, have yet to receive my $500 refundable payment, and have received zero updates or resolutions or my registration.

* On October 15, after having an extensive call with the manager, he called my husband back and said they would cover the spark plugs repair BUT NOT the rental car. I explained that we had no other transportation since we haven't had our vehicle. I asked for them to please cover all of the rental expenses because we still have not received the check from them to get our car. The manager, Parker, was clear that they will NOT cover the repairs and the rental - he said I had to choose one.

Throughout this ordeal, I have experienced not only a lack of customer service, but also a disturbing lack of compassion and responsibility from Driveway.com. Despite having paid for this vehicle and insurance, I have only been able to use it twice - both times resulting in breakdowns that put me and my family in danger.

I've been patient, polite, and fair but at this point, I can't take it anymore. All I wanted was a functional vehicle and no $500 rental car tab.

Horrific experience

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Updated by user Jul 14, 2025

July 13th update. This car is worse than I ever imagined.

Not only do both tires on the drivers side constantly deflate but now there’s a sound of metal on metal screeching whenever I make a turn at low speeds.

There’s constant howling wind noises and when I looked into trading it in I would be out $10,000!! How does a car depreciate this much in 6 months!?

Updated by user Jun 07, 2025

I brought the car back to dealership repair shop one more time and they replaced the front headlight.

Original review Mar 21, 2025
I purchased a car on January 15th, and it was delivered on January 31st. Immediately upon delivery, I saw undisclosed issues and notified Driveway.

February 5th - I finally heard back from someone, and they requested pictures of all the issues. One issue could not be photographed, and that was the fully rusted brakes. February 6th - I dropped the car off at the dealership I was advised to drop it off at so they could address my concerns. March 10th - I finally picked up my car from the dealership, and it became apparent that nothing would fix the safety concerns that this car has.

The steering wheel vibrates upon the slightest acceleration, the front light is cracked, so water and condensation are constantly an issue, rattling noises come from the engine, and the back passenger door is misaligned and not closing properly are just a few of my concerns. March 11th - I contacted Driveway to express my concerns and, again, requested to return the car (previously asked to return at least 5 times). I'm told it's past the 7-day return period; no *** it’s been at one of YOUR dealerships for the majority of the time since I got it! I saved the best for last.

On March 13th, I learned of a SEVERE crash the vehicle was in, which was never disclosed to me prior to purchase. Today is March 20th, and I am still waiting for a call back from a manager, but with the way things have been, I’ll likely hear from Jesus himself before a manager from Driveway.

Horrible customer service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Driveway - Horrible customer service
Contains 1 confidential file for company representatives

I purchased a car for the 7-day trial. They sent me a car that had a crack in the front that was not disclosed.

Nonetheless, I wanted to return it. They made it a hassle for me to return it. Sent an 18-wheeler so I had to drive to it. They're not responding to my text or my phone calls a lot of the times.

And they've been holding on to my paid in full refund for over 3 weeks now. The agents come up with excuse after excuse when trying to explain why something went wrong. This company seems to be very shady in their dealings. Have also found out about other people that have been given the runaround and they've held their money from them.

I highly recommend you stay away from this company! I ended up using Carvana, they rock!

Driveway.com was extremely professional and kept in contact all along the way until I bought the car... then crickets!!!

I got pulled over yesterday for improper registration. I let driveway.com know, and yet, here we are.

They made the process PAINFUL

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

First, they handled the sale by giving me a bunch of BS on how an out-of-state sale worked. I have bought several cars from another state and did not have to deal with the crap Driveway put me through.

Second, when it was being delivered, I got a message over and over changing the day, and when that was finally set, I got a different time over and over. When it was finally delivered, I only knew because I walked outside and the guy was there with the car, and It was absolutely FILTHY.

The guy with the delivery service did not care. Do NOT use this company.

Resolved: Stole 500.00

Updated by user Mar 28, 2025

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with apology.

Original review updated Mar 13, 2025
I found a car online, reached out to Driveway to purchase. They required that I put down a $500 deposit, which I did.

I spent two hours on the phone with the representative that evening. The next morning, they called to tell me that the vehicle was not available since they no longer owned the dealership and would not be able to get me the vehicle, but they did have several other vehicles that were $5,000 more expensive. This is where my red flags popped up. Seems like a bait-and-switch company.

Get your money, and then the car is not available, but they have more expensive cars that they can get for you. I then made it very clear that I was only interested in that specific vehicle and to please return my deposit, and I will move on. They said, no problem, they would get that refunded. That's where the saga begins.

They actually charged my card twice. So they took a $1,000 deposit. Four phone calls later and 6 days later, they've only returned $500 of my money. I speak to a different person every time that says allow 3 to 5 business days.

They have stolen $500 of my money.

Playing games all for a vehicle they never even had in their inventory. Buyer beware!!!

Deceptive Practices and Wasted Time – Avoid Driveway.com!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I am filing a complaint against Driveway.com for misleading practices and poor customer service during my attempted vehicle sale. They wasted my time, collected my personal information, and failed to complete the process as promised.

I was assured by their representative, Scarlett, that selling my 2022 Hyundai Elantra SEL would be "quick and easy." I provided all requested information, including personal details, mailing and pickup addresses, vehicle photos, and the last four digits of my Social Security number.

I also completed a virtual inspection and received a final offer.

After extensive back-and-forth communication, I was suddenly informed that Driveway.com does not have a Hyundai contact and could not proceed with the transaction.

This was despite knowing from the beginning that I was selling a Hyundai lease. Their failure to verify eligibility earlier caused unnecessary frustration and wasted effort.

Key issues with Driveway.com:

Misleading Promises: They claimed to handle lease buyouts but later said they could not.

Wasted Time and Effort: I completed all requested steps only to be denied service.

Poor Communication: The representative did not verify eligibility before proceeding.

Unnecessary Data Collection: My personal information was gathered without delivering the promised service.
